Kathmandu. The families of the endangered Chidimar community of Banke have got permanent houses from the public housing program started with the objective of giving houses to the poor. In the first year, 40 families living in different villages of Nepalgunj and Kohalpur areas have got permanent houses under the public housing program run by the federal government and then the Lumbini state government.
Although his ancestral profession is bird killing, Chidimar has been earning a living by working as a daily wage laborer in recent years. The Chidimar community, who have been living in a miserable condition in the land of Kutchi Fus without land in their name, are very happy after the government has built a permanent house for them.
They are amazed that after building their own house, it will be easier for them to live comfortably and spend the night even in hot, rainy and windy weather. The Lumbini state government provides Rs. 335,000 to the deprived, endangered, dalit and extremely marginalized castes and communities through the public housing program. Each house built with the help of public housing has two rooms with tin roofs and toilets.
The Urban Development and Office Nepalgunj under Lumbini Province has built 1,355 houses in Banke and Bardiya in the last three years and handed them over to the concerned persons. Banke and Bardiya have 511 houses under construction.
